Sustainability
We know our company makes an impact—and it’s our job to make sure it’s a positive one. We work to safely and responsibly build out the natural gas infrastructure that powers people’s daily activities, while building up the lives and opportunities of our employees, their families, and those in our communities.
Building Better
Our ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) focus helps to tell our story of responsibility and sustainability, and the many initiatives supporting our ESG emphasis drive our continuous improvement.
Both internally and externally, we are committed to building better. This means embracing our responsibility as an employer and member of the community to provide resources that encourage our employees, our suppliers, and our communities to have better conversations, establish stronger partnerships, inspire brighter futures, and create more opportunities.
Community
We are thankful to live and work in our communities, and we strive to be the best neighbors and citizens possible. Supporting the communities where we work means giving back through volunteerism and philanthropy. We’re proud to support local and diverse charitable organizations that build sustainable futures.
Giving Back
NPL Canada recognizes that given our position as an industry leader, it is important that we lead by example. The very nature of our job is working in natural environments, many of which were historically occupied by Indigenous Communities. Thus, NPL Canada has an unwavering dedication to giving back to these communities and respecting the land that we live and work on.
With our continuous commitment to give back, through Indigenous involvement and employment, NPL Canada is a registered member of the CCAB (Canadian Council for Aboriginal Businesses) with the goal to further strengthen our connection with indigenous contractors by creating progressive and prosperous indigenous partnerships and opportunities.
Furthering that commitment, NPL Canada has joined the PAR (Progressive Aboriginal Relations) certification program. As a certified company, NPL Canada highlights to indigenous communities that we are a great business partner, a great place to work and committed to prosperity in Indigenous communities.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
The diversity of our employees is a major catalyst for our ongoing success and long-term sustainability as a company. That’s why we are intent on furthering a welcoming and inclusive workplace culture that listens and equally values all of our employees’ unique backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
A Fair, Welcoming Culture: Our goal is to build a culture where diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values throughout the workplace environment. This extends beyond our internal practices – hiring, listening sessions, employee conduct training, cultural competency of management – to our suppliers and the communities where we live and work.
In addition to our emphasis on creating a workplace where every employee feels a sense of respect and belonging, we are deliberate in our efforts to work with local and diverse suppliers across our operations, as well as participate in organizations to listen, learn, and enhance our diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Supplier Diversity
We’re committed to expanding our partnerships with diverse suppliers and building opportunities for businesses in our communities. We actively pursue opportunities and advocate for minority- and women-owned businesses.
Extending Our Inclusion Commitment: Our emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to the partnerships we develop with local suppliers. We work with diverse subcontractors and suppliers to support our operational needs and the commitments of our utility customers.
Environment
We are mindful of the impact our work has on the environment, and we take care to protect it through responsible operations practices as well as proactive efforts to reduce our overall footprint. We have joined with our parent company in a goal to reduce greenhouse gasses 25% by 2030. We’ll achieve this by examining our practice across field operations, our fleet, and our facilities.
Field
Our field operations follow all environmental regulations and minimize impacts to the natural environment by following proper procedures for waste handling and disposal, along with other responsible job site practices. Our Safety and Quality function regularly audits all environmental practices in the field.
Fleet
Through GPS systems installed on our fleet vehicles, along with our fleet utilization process and evaluation of fuel usage, we are tracking data with the aim to reduce our overall fleet emissions and optimize vehicle and equipment use across the company.
Facilities
To identify opportunities for greater energy efficiency and reduced usage, we are reviewing energy consumption at our major facilities.
Doing the Right Thing
Insistence on ethical behavior throughout all levels of our company is essential to creating a culture where all employees feel safe, valued, and free to do their best work.
Empowered for Success
NPL Canada strives to create workplaces where people feel empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to work. Our strength as a company is, in part, due to how we leverage our differences and the individual experiences and ideas of all employees. Most importantly, creating an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work is the right thing to do.
Accountability
Our Employee Code of Business Conduct and Ethics summarizes our expectations for employees in the workplace. We hold similar expectations for our suppliers and require our partners to adhere to our Vendor Code of Conduct.
Giving Employees a Voice
We encourage our employees to report any instances of misconduct in the workplace through the Centuri Ethics Helpline. This helpline provides resources and avenues for reporting inappropriate workplace behavior. Each and every report is confidential and reviewed with the utmost sincerity.
